This message was just received from Greg 2 AT 454 and he ask for me
to pass it on to everyone. Some of you may not know, but Brownie was
retired from the Evansville, Indiana Fire Department.
Subject: Brownie: Final Farewell
We ( Jack-787 & I ) have just returned from Brownie's final services,
and will tell you that he was given one of the finest funerals I have
ever had to attend. Honor guards of the Evansville Fire Department
were constantly posted on both sides of his casket throughout the
services, giving salutes to Brownie every 10 minutes. Flowers were
plentiful and lots of Alfa Tango Group materials were displayed.
Words of comfort were given and his daughter Donna gave a touching
statement. Upon the conclusion in final funeral home services, each
fireman independently gave Brownie their final salute. Brownie was
carried outside by six uniformed firemen, having a column of eight
uniformed firemen on both sides standing at attention. In escort to
his final resting area, leading vehicles were a motorcycle police
officer (in full dress), two fire marshall sedans, the hearse, and
those that followed behind. As we arrived at the cemetery, there was a
single full-size fire truck (lights on) awaiting at the gate, having
four firemen in normal uniform standing at attention at full salute.
In entering the mausoleum, his entry was as like his exit at the
funeral home. Once inside, words of comfort were given, final salutes
were passed, and family members were given a medal with flag for his
21 year dedicated service. Brownie was then entombed along side
Colita. Floral arrangements on his casket (spray) were beautiful:
stating it all ...
' Gone To Be With Colita'.
